Abstract
The objective of the research is to discover the impacts on online transportation (Go-ride) on reducing the unemployment rate in Medan. The research applies qualitative data to provide detailed and in-depth description of the impacts of online transportation (Go-ride) on reducing the unemployment rate in Medan. The data are collected by asking ten (10) questions in an open-ended questionnaire. The population is 370 Go-ride drivers selected by using random sampling method. The results of the research demonstrate that online transportation (Go-ride) does not have any impact on reducing the unemployment rate in Medan. It is proven by the fact that 83% of the respondents have already had a job before they became Go-ride drivers, with average income reaching up to IDR 3,500,000 per month. The obstacles faced by the drivers are that the regulations of the company and government do not take their sides so that they are often demanded to pick up the customers earlier while the mileage is quite distant and jammed; also that the consumers do not to wait for some time so that they decide to cancel their orders. These order cancellations decline the performance of the go-ride drivers that their bonus points are not achieved. Therefore, the policies of the Government and company require revisions to renew their regulations to be more siding with the go-ride drivers to support their economic sustainability.
