Abstract

Indonesia has the potential as the largest seaweed exporter in the world. Indonesia's fishery potential
is quite large, where approximately two million hectares of sea area is suitable for the development of
seaweed. Types of seaweed are much in demand the market is the type of Euchema cottonii and
Glacillaria sp. Based on FAO data, Indonesia is the third largest country as a producer of seaweed,
after China and Philippines. In 2007, Indonesia was able to produce 1,733,705 tons of seaweed,
equivalent to 13.17 percent of world seaweed production. In terms of export volume, Indonesia ranks
second after China where from 1999 to 2006, Indonesia has exported 332,666 tons of world seaweed.
However, in terms of export value, Indonesia still lags behind countries with lower export volumes.
Based on the value of exports, Indonesia only occupies the fifth position, where from 1999 to 2006
the value of Indonesia's export only 195,919 thousand US Based on the calculation of E-Views 7.1
and using a confidence level of 5% or (0.05) it can be seen the value of R -Squared of 0.882 and
obtained a constant value of -47.325. The result of the probability of production, price, and exchange
rate shows <0.05. This means that together variables indenpenden have a significant effect on the
dependent variable of seaweed export competitiveness.
