RESPON PERTUMBUHAN VEGETATIF BEBERAPA VARIETAS UNGGUL KEDELAI (Glycine max L.) TERHADAP TEKNIK TOPPING DAN PENAMBAHAN PUPUK ORGANIK

Abstract

It is of utmost importance to increase soybean production substantially to meet the growing demand of the society. The topping technique, organic fertilizers, and superior soybean varieties can be implemented to achieve this goal. This research is designed to determine how the topping technique and the addition of organic fertilizers affect soybean production during the vegetative phase. The study took place in Sei Mencirim Village, Sunggal, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, between October 2022 and January 2023, using a randomized block design with three replications. The study included three levels for the first factor (no topping, topping, and topping + organic fertilizer) and three levels for the second factor (Anjasmoro, Wilis F1, and Grobogan). The findings of the test conducted during the vegetative growth phase suggest that single topping has a considerable impact on the plant height and the number of branches at the age of 5 MST. Moreover, the selection of a single variety significantly affects the plant height variable at the age of 3 MST and 4 MST. Therefore it is recommended to apply this topping technique in soybean cultivation. Moreover, the selection of superior soybean varieties can also be beneficial for achieving optimal plant growth.
